A Surprise in the Field

” A Surprise in the Field” 24 x 36 in | Acrylic and Mixed -Media on Birch

Dear Friends,
August 25,2015

I’m continuing on with new artwork for the Paradise Valley Art Showcase on September 26th. I’m burning the midnight oil for this one….there is something to be said about creating a deadline. Now, I just have to live up to it!

In my last series, I used a variety of old door hardware I had found at my last studio. There was a heap of old items to be hauled to the dump in the alley. I was peeking through the pile and came across some old door pieces from the church. I didn’t have any idea how to use them in my artwork but knew they would come in handy at some point. I like the hard look and feel of the stainless steel and brass pieces as they add an element of surprise in each piece and have continued this in my new series.

The present works feature views of Paradise Valley Golf Course and use these door pieces with my word of the year “Growth.” It makes a great match in my mind…keys, doors of opportunity and growth all wrapped together in one bundle. Don’t ask me to write an artist statement about it yet: I’m just enjoying the links and will make sense of it before the end of next month!

Hope you can make it on September 26th from 7-10 pm at Paradise Valley!
