This is the time of year when you automatically start to reflect on the past year and plan for the new year.
I can’t complain about 2016 in terms of art growth. When I reflect on the events of the year, it amazes me how my “word of the year” actually ends of matching my art-making process. If you recall, my word this year is “Expansion”. I have expanded my reputation of being a Medicine Hat artist, but didn’t achieve my goal of gallery representation or a public gallery show outside of Medicine Hat. So, guess what I’ll be working on this year?
G.K. Chesterton stated ” There is a road from the eye to the heart that does not go through the intellect”.
This gives an indication of creative intelligence many artists hold.
Artistic intelligence holds dollops of imagination and can appear to be more wonderful than real-life reality. But, the more I am in this art world, the more my intellect tells me to use practical life-skills: hard-work, focus and practicalities. I think the use of these skills will help me aim my sights for 2017.
I have many things to look forward to this upcoming year. So many great people to meet in my next six months of classes. As well as the many new collectors whom have purchased my work and supported my passion this past year. Your love of everything Medicine Hat was truly touching and makes me want to continue to paint more of our beautiful city.
Thank-you for all the comments and enthusiasm while I was painting at the lake this summer for the Cypress Club Show. It was an amazing experience just to be able to paint and not be tied to the the day-to-day – hopefully something I can repeat this summer again with my husbands permission!!!!
Let’s look forward to the new year together. I hope to see you at a class, at an upcoming workshop or even a new art show this year.
