New Year, New Stories
Dear Friends,
January 4, 2018
One of the things I find most interesting is to the experience of capturing a physical bricks and mortar building in a painting for a client.
For this person has a story to tell. Each time he/she views the final painting, these memories associated with the bricks, pavement or landscape illicits this deep connection.
I believe locations and buildings have a powerful play on our emotions as they evoke a memory. This is why I paint the south, north flats of Medicine Hat. These locations are part of my past and future in shaping who I am today. The true reality is that buildings change and evolve; some are replaced. I often feel like I am working against time to capture these stories and commit them to canvas.
For a client who commissions a painting, their story is different. Sometimes the connection to a physical location is sad, happy, nostalgic or plainly a reminder of a life well lived and what one has achieved. Sometimes its as simple as pride of ownership.
Every motivation, every story a client has about a Medicine Hat location I find truly fascinating. By painting a commission, its one additional way I can get to all of the old buildings in Medicne Hat and capture the essence of the story.
If you have a story you would like to see captured as a painting, contact me at artworksinred@gmail.com or go the blog and share your comments!
Thanks for reading,
Theresa
