An Acrylic painting by Medicine Hat artist, Theresa Eisenbarth of Pansy flowersDear ART Friends,

On Saturday, I was driving to meet a friend for coffee on 13th Avenue, Medicine Hat.
Not much of an extraordinary thing I suppose, but as I was sitting in my vehicle at the lights waiting for red to turn to green, I glanced to my right and noticed a little girl in her booster seat in a truck. Tears welled in my eyes. She brought back such sweet memories of when my kids were little. She was moving her head back and forth and singing to her little brother in the baby car seat. My daughter, Sarah often broke into song and belted out a harrowing mix of musical notes when signing to musicians like Raffi, Sharon, Lewis, and Braum or any other Disney soundtrack we had recently watched on TV.
It reminded me that kids don’t have to try and be themselves. They just are. Raw, unfiltered and unforgiving about what they are doing at a particular time.
Often as adults and as artists, I feel that I am pretending to be something other than who I am.

It was a clear reminder that being true to oneself is the magic I need to create. It’s about making art that relates to peoples’ lives and fostering connections and relationships through my painting stories.

I guess if it takes me a little bit longer to get there….so be it 🙂
