Dear Art Friends,
June 28th, 2021

Two days of outdoor painting in Sunny southern Alberta + a free Friday demo.

**Although painting plein-air on sight or from still life is

king for lively meaningful paintings, most paintings are

done using a photograph as reference material. In this

workshop with Doug Swinton you will gain insight into the

potential pitfalls of painting from photos and learn some

tips and essential skills to help create successful paintings

from photos.**

Very excited to announce a new July workshop here in Medicine Hat with Master artist, Doug Swinton

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • How to take better reference photos
  • How to fix bad reference photos
  • when a photo just won’t work.
  • How photos lie to you.
  • How to simplify a photo
  • Bring a stack of photos of your own or choose from any of the many photos that will be provided.

Let Doug show you how to turn them into something artful. Most of this tutorial is based on landscape painting but much of the information presented applies to painting from any photographic reference material. Using our new found knowledge, we should be able to paint 2 paintings each day.
