Hat Hardware once occupied the building where the present King of Trade business stands on third street. Hat Hardware was owned and operated by Harry Veiner from 1952-1987.
Boy, do I remember Harry Veiner. He was especially good to our family. Since my dad was a contractor, he had numerous odd jobs for him to do in and around Medicine Hat. We visited this store often and I remember open shelves stacked with a treasure trove of goods for sale; especially a selection of open-stock, Hycroft dishes. Harry sat on a raised landing in the back of the store. When I entered the store, he would call me to the landing and give me a red rose. It made me feel very grown-up and special walking home to have my rose in hand.
